Yet, equally important it remains extremely easy to use.

The key feature of Notepad is that data can be passed to any other Risc OS application that uses standard writeable icons.

This means that data stored within Notepad can be used in other applications, saving time. One key area where Notepad is extremely useful is the storing of World Wide Web addresses. Storing these addresses (URL) within Notepad enables you to easily enter URL into any browser, therefore if you use more than one browser you are only storing the information in one place.

Macro's

Notepad now supports a simple Macro language (very simple actually!) allowing data other than directly written text to be passed to other applications.

For example, a Macro can be defined so that Notepad will insert the current time or date into another application. This might be particularly useful if you are storing names and addresses within Notepad, maybe for the header of a letter - and you wish the current date to be written.

Filters

A filter is a special piece of software whereby files not normally loadable by an application can be loaded. The filter converts the information from a file into a format which can be loaded by the application. Notepad supports the use of filters although at present only a limited number of types are coped with.

   Standard & PC format text files
