QuarkFS

QuarkFS is a useful utility for users of VTi's ArcFS2 compression utility.

QuarkFS is an additional front-end for ArcFS2, again like many Spidersoft products making things that little bit simpler - and of course providing additional facilities.

Instead of creating an archive containing your applications, QuarkFS creates an application, containing an archive containing your application! The idea is that you compress a single application in a single archive. This method means you to preserve the look of your directories as though the applications were uncompressed, whilst making the usual saving on space.

What QuarkFS does is compress the application in an archive, the archive is given the exact name as the application (minus the "!"). This archive is then stored within the original application as a replacement for what was originally there. A new !Run file is created which loads the application from within the new archive, and a new !Sprites file is also created.

This means that disk directories look as they always did, but the archives are hidden inside the application. This also has the advantage that the archive contains an exact replica of the original application - meaning it is very easy to revert back to an uncompressed version at any time.
